Free vitamins added to Healthy Start Program


Mothers and children are to receive free vitamins and some will also get financial help to buy milk, fruit and vegetables.


Funding for the programme has been obtained for Cumbria County Council’s Healthy Start scheme.


The free vitamins will be given out in various centres to mothers and children up to four-years-old.

Get help to buy food and milk (Healthy Start). Up to £8.50 per week via a Healthy Start digital card is available to those who meet the criteria and this can be used to buy milk, fruit, veg, pulses etc.

Free vitamins will be distributed via Midwives / Health Visitors at the early visits and then families will be directed to a local accessible community setting to collect their ongoing vitamins every 7- 8 weeks and where they can be helped to complete their Healthy Start application if not already completed.

Information about other local services, activities in the area will also be available.
